We are on our way with "Igor' Farkhutdinov" from Korsakov on Sakhalin to Yuzhno-Kuril'sk, after a stop on Shikotan. We have obtained the necessary border papers for the island of Kunashir on Sakhalin and want to stay there for a week. The entire journey takes about 28 hours. We have smooth seas, see whales and many birds. From the evening onward we have very dense fog.

The ship stops at Shikotan Island for about two hours, but you need special papers to get off the ship. We had already discussed the possibility of getting close to this confluence point in advance. On the way from Kosakov to Shikotan we had contacted an officer of the ship via the waitress in the café on board and told him about the confluency project. He said he can't promise we'll hit the confluence point - the route is strictly regulated because of the border to Japan. That's why we couldn't make it over the point correctly.

Return journey on 13.6.2018 around 3:30 pm
On the return trip one week later, no contact to the ship personnel was possible beforehand. We pass the CP about 150 m further south than on the outward journey.

We think it might be possible to get the helmsman to make a small course correction at the next attempt.
