(visited by Curt Christiansen and John Alcantra)

18-Jun-2001 -- (continued from 46N103W)

We came into South Dakota on state road 79 heading south past Reva and on through the “Slim Buttes”, part of Custer National Forest. Just north of Hoover we turned east on Hoover-Zeona Rd (pic #3). After about 9 miles we turned south on the Old Twilight Rd. Both were good gravel roads. Along these roads we were in open range land for both sheep (pic #4) and cattle. 10 miles later we reached Mud Butte Rd. and went east two miles to yet another small “road” (pic #1) that was in the Atlas but not actually there. This was not really a problem, it just meant we couldn’t drive as close as we had hoped. This point lies in range land rather than the cultivated fields we had been seeing at most of our previous points visited on this trip. The point (pics #2 & #5) was only .35 off the road and easily reached at about 11 am. After the point we headed east on Mud Butte road, passing some llamas (pic #6), to US212. We took US212 southwest back to SD79, which we took south to Sturgis where we grabbed a quick lunch at Subway and refueled the car.
