(visited by Captain Peter)

06-Nov-2006 -- Sailing in best weather along the south coast of Nova Scotia towards Sydney on Cape Breton Island today we visited 45N 61W, a quite offshore Confluence, but no problem with this visibility.

Looking towards WNW we see the coast of Nova Scotia, to the NW there is Port Felix, and finally towards NNW we can see Cape Canso with the numerous scattered islands around, known as the Canso Ledges.

All what we see is on a peninsula extending almost exactly E-W. Behind this peninsula there is Chedabucto Bay, which ships have to enter when they intend to transit the Strait of Canso (the narrow channel separating Nova Scotia from Cape Breton Island and leading into the Gulf of St. Lawrence).

Nova Scotia was occupied by the British in 1628, ceded to France in 1632, and returned by the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.
