02-Oct-2005 -- We have just recognized that GPS is the most important and useful facility for Mongolia, where cities and local areas are in distant location and has dispersedly settled population, and have started to use it for our trips.

We have found from Internet that there are total 167 points of confluences of longitudes and latitudes on the territory of Mongolia and only 65 of those are currently known.

Our family lives in Ulaanbaatar and as we found that the nearest unknown confluence to Ulaanbaatar city is 48N 104E and is located in Dashinchilan soum, Bulgan province, 233 km to the west from Ulaanbaatar, we traveled there on our holidays.

That day was nice: sunny, cloudless, without precipitation and temperature was +6 Co. Actually, in Mongolia, the weather is mostly pleasure in fall.

We got the center of Dashinchilen soum, Bulgan province, having traveled 170 km way from Ulaanbaatar through paved road and rest of the way through the non-paved road. Since our decision to take a shortcut, heading the proper direction was some mistake, we have to cover about 1.5 km swampy way that is salty and bumpy as the sign of dried up lake of old time for an hour. However, we successfully covered the way and got our destination.

Our destination is empty land, where no one settles, but there was a family breeding many cows 2 km far from it.

The confluence point 48N 104E is nice woodless land located on the not high mountain foot.

The travel team consists of our family including G. Ulziisaikhan, G. Oyuntsetseg and our youngest son U. Tushig.
