#1: confluence site looking south

(visited by Frank Majcenovic)

03-May-2002 -- I decided to approach this confluence from the BC side. This is the last land-based confluence not yet visited in Washington state.

From the junctions of hwys 22 and 3B, drive west on 22 to the Rossland-Cascade Road on your right. Follow this good gravel road for 15.8 miles and the crossing of Big Sheep creek. Immediately after the bridge, go left on road marked 'Road Not Maintained Beyond This Point'.

Follow this deteriorating gravel road to 17.9 mile mark and a sharp left turn uphill. Follow this road uphill to 19.25 miles and an old logging road on the left. This road becomes a creek and you follow this uphill (south) through a logged area until you reach the end of the clearcut.

From here it is 0.5 miles south through the trees to the confluence. You will get glimpses of the boundary cut line from time to time as you approach the confluence. The confluence is reached in an open area about 90 feet south of the boundary cut line (watch for INS "lasers"). I took some pictures of the site and the cut line and headed back to the truck.
