27-Jul-2002 -- With coffee in hand and GPS in pocket, our goal was 51N 99W.
K and I had been travelling for a while on highway 50 north
for a while before jumping onto 278. Approximately 26 km
north of the junction, we came to our starting point for the
hike to the confluence. After a friendly chat with Wayne
Thompson (property owner), he gave us his blessing to wander
his fields.
Our starting point was 200 m up the road from Wayne's
driveway with the confluence only 157 m into the bush.
Through a barb wire fence and dodging a number of old
cow patties (and some ripe ones as well), we made quick
time and were at the point within minutes (not like the
51N 100W attempt). While taking the appropriate photos
of the area, Wayne wandered out to see exactly where this
confluence was. Another friendly chat about the project
along with a photo of the owner and we were on our way.
We had tagged out first confluence.
