(visited by Thomas Schoch)

13-Jun-2019 -- There are two confluence points that I can reach from the front door in a day trip by bicycle: this one and the one at 51°N 7°E. My first bike ride to a confluence point (and my first confluence visit at all) led me from the start in Essen-Frohnhausen almost straight north to the finish. As a route, I chosed a compromise between shortest possible route and charming landscape – the result was quite successful: photos of the tour I have stored here on Komoot. (As you can see from the photos, I was traveling with a friend.)

After 83 kilometers and 320 meters of altitude, we reached the target area: the Liesner Wald in the triangle between the Münsterland towns of Stadtlohn, Gescher and Ahaus. Fortunately, we found a gravel road (not yet marked in our Open Streetmap map), which led us to a few meters to the confluence point – so we were spared the way through the brambles beside the asphalt road. As we reached the target – pushing the bicycles – a deer fled into the forest.

The confluence point lies in a light mixed beech forest (in addition to beeches also pines and oaks) with little undergrowth, about 200 m off the next asphalt road. Our GPS receiver showed a height of 68 m above SL and an accuracy of 4 m - for the photos with the exact coordinates we had to go back and forth a few meters. (Of course we did not miss the opportunity to log the geocache hidden there.)

Next, visits are planned at 51°N 4°E and 51°N 5°E.
