#1: This was all there was to see in all directions for 800m or more!

(visited by Augustus Pike)

01-Jul-2010 -- Left Goose Bay at 8:00 this morning, heading for West Ste. Modeste where my folks live. I had been eyeing this confluence since the new road opened up through this area last winter, and decided to go for it today if the site looked approachable from the road and if the weather was decent.

Well, once I arrived at the closest point to the site from the road, I decided that the terrain might be manageable, (stringbog and black spruce forest) but the rain and blackflies/mosquitos were trying to deter me! My wife simply looked at me and said..."I'll stay here in the warm, dry car...!" and after a quick lunch, off I went. She had one of our two-way radios, so we were in contact throughout the walk!

It took me about an hour round trip, although after the first 300 m, I was thoroughly soaked even with a rain coat and my long rubber boots on... wet spruce trees show no respect for a human wanting to stay dry! Battling flies and wet branches slapping me in the face, I arrived onsite 1.25 km from the road in the absolute middle of nowhere, soaking wet, fly-bitten (because flyspray doesn't stay on when you are soaking wet!) and... delighted to see the coords zero out on my GPS! The last 800 m from the road in to here is dense scraggly spruce and willows, but on a dry day it would not be as bad a walk, I'm sure! Anyway, I also left a geocache on the spot if any other cacher/confluence hunter wants a '2-fer' here!
