13-Jul-2024 -- Im August 2010 waren wir in Rostock zum Schulanfang (Siehe: 54°N 12°E ). Dieses Wochenende waren wir zum Abitur-Ball des Schulanfängers eingeladen.

Wir leihen uns von Freunden ein Gummiboot und nehmen es mit. Die App „Windfinder“ zeigt Wind parallel zum Land mit maximal 18 Knoten und 50 cm Wellen.

Ausgerüstet mit Schwimmwesten stechen wir in See. Nach etwa 100 Meter beginnen die Wellen größer zu werden. Wir fahren deshalb erst einmal mit dem Wind und den Wellen entgegen bis das GPS den CP etwa 100m hinter uns anzeigt.

Dann drehen wir, um mit dem Wind und den Wellen die Nullen zu erreichen. Hier auf der See sind die Wellen über 50 cm und als wir das erste Mal in den Bereich des CP kommen, sind die Lichtbedingungen so ungünstig, dass uns kein Foto mit 21 m gelingt. Ganz schnell waren wir über 100 m nördlich.

Wir drehen und kämpfen uns gegen den Wind und die schräg auf uns zurollenden Wellen zurück. Katja paddelt als „Motor“, ich versuche mit durch meinen Paddeleinsatz das Ziel anzusteuern.

Plötzlich sind alle Zahlen auf dem GPS auf „Null“, mir gelingt das Foto, unser Boot dreht sich zwischen die Wellen und beginnt stark in diesen zu schwanken.

Beherzt greife ich zum Paddel und bringe uns in sichere Position. Ohne den Fotoapparat wirklich wasserdicht zu verpacken, starten wir mit aller Kraft schräg zu den Wellen und entgegen den Wind Richtung Ufer.

Etwa 100 m vor diesem drehen wir wieder, um mit dem Wind im Rücken zum Startpunkt und den wartenden Freunden zu gelangen.

Mit ihrem Jubel fällt mir ein, dass wir auf der See keine Bilder in die Himmelsrichtung gemacht haben und ich mach diese nun kurz vor dem Strand.

Glücklich über die gelungene Aktion tragen wir das Boot bis zum Café am „Schlossgut Groß Schwansee“ und lassen es uns dort gut gehen, während das Boot auf der Wiese trocknet.

Für Katja der zweite CP-Besuch und für mich der letzte in Deutschland ergänzen das Abi-Wochenende Perfekt.

13-Jul-2024 -- In August 2010 we were in Rostock for the school enrollment (See: 54°N 12°E ).

This weekend we were invited to the graduation ball of this former school student.

We borrowed a rubber boat from friends and took it with us. The "Windfinder" app shows wind parallel to the land with a maximum of 18 knots and 50 cm high waves.

We drive to the parking lot “Groß Schwansee” and walk to the beach. The sight of the Baltic Sea gives us courage and so we pump up our boat.

Equipped with life jackets, we head out to sea. After about 100 meters, the waves start to get bigger. So, we head into the wind and waves until the GPS shows the CP about 100 meters behind us. Then we turn to reach the zeros with the wind and the waves. Here out on the sea the waves are over 50 cm and when we reach the area of the CP for the first time, the light conditions are so bad that we don't manage to take a photo at 21 m. Very quickly we were again pushed 100 m away towards the north of the CP.

We turn and fight our way back against the wind and the waves rolling diagonally towards us, Katja paddles as the "engine", I try to steer towards the destination with my paddle.

Suddenly all the numbers on the GPS are "zero", I manage to take a photo, our boat turns between the waves and starts to rock heavily.

I bravely grab the paddle and bring us into a safe position. Without really waterproofing the camera, we set off with all our strength at an angle to the waves and against the wind towards the shore. About 100 m before reaching the shore, we turn again with the wind at our backs to get to the starting point and our friends waiting for us.

As they cheer, I remember that we didn't take any pictures facing the four directions and I take them just before the beach.

Happy about the successful action, we carry the boat to the café at "Schlossgut Groß Schwansee" and have a good time there while the boat dries on the lawn.

It was Katja's second visit to a campsite and my last in Germany, making it the perfect end to this graduation weekend.
