#1: View to the North

(visited by Genadi Giebler, Andreas Beyer, Regina Giebler, Yi-Chun Lin and Oliver Merz)

30-Aug-2008 – Our group has decided to visit this confluence point in a one day excursion from Severobaikalsk at the northern Baikal by a train trip in east direction of Baikal-Amur-Mainline (BAM) up to the station Angoya. The forestry settlement Angoya is in 7 km away from this confluence.

Fortunately we could catch an expedition car of BAM-seismic experts going in east direction along the BAM railroad. We left this car in 3.7 km from the confluence point.

The last part was a foot walk across the forest. This forest is a forestry cultured near of the upper Angara river. So we could partially use forest tracks.

To reach the point was easy in generally, but the mosquitoes was a real problem.

The views of the four directions (#1, #2, #3, #4) show only mono cultural forest with traces of older forest fires. The GPS shows an approximation of 6.5 m to the point at 11:31 local time (4:31 ME time).

And now about the participants at the group photo (from right to left):
Andreas Beyer (Germany),
Yi-Chun Lin (Taiwan),
Regina Giebler (Germany),
Oliver Merz (Switzerland),
Genadi Giebler (Germany).
