18-Aug-2023 – Continued after 60°N 52°E.

In the morning we had to move from Kirs to the south, to the village of Peskovka, in the Omutninsky district. Having traveled 35–40 km, we found ourselves in a place that fully justified its name: all roads in and out of the village are sandy and inconvenient for riding a motorcycle.

Confluences are located in two directions from Peskovka: due west 59°N 52°E and due east 59°N 53°E. Roads lead to them. We decided to start with the one for which there were questions, 59°N 52°E. The question was whether there was a bridge across the Vyatka, right outside the village, at the beginning of the route. The fact is that pictures from space did not give an affirmative answer. The bridge seems to be visible, but what condition is it in? Further, it turned out that this and all the following bridges to the confluences are good and not only timber trucks can pass through them.

So, having crossed the bridge, we found ourselves on a well-rolled dirt road, which, in strict accordance with the loaded Google map (it helped us a lot, since there was no connection in the forest), brought us closer to the confluence. But, as expected, the road was getting worse: deep ruts, causeways, grassy areas.

Before reaching the confluence 7 km, we leave the motorcycles. Taking the essentials with us, we set off on foot. For more than an hour we moved at first for a long time along a straight logger's path, then turned onto a perpendicular path, passing along it for another couple of kilometers. And then, by azimuth. The confluence turned out to be on an old swampy clearing, along which one could move freely without tearing through the wilds.

Visit data:

  • Local time at CP: 12.10
  • Elevation above sea level: 203 m
  • Weather: sunny, +26°C

We've marked the CP, and held the same way back to Peskovka. It is worth noting that on the dried road you can see many traces of animals, including bears. The place is quite wild.

In Peskovka, we had lunch in a cafe, took local boys for a ride on motorcycles. The time was not quite late, about four o'clock. We decided to go towards our last confluence 59°N 53°E. From Peskovka to the east, to Biserovo, there is a dirt road 50 km long through the taiga. The road ends with a ford across the Kama. Not every vehicle will overcome the ford in Biserovo, so the road is almost never used. It was decided to go along it to the village of Lupya, located about halfway. In Lupya, we wanted to set up a tent, not knowing in advance about its habitability. The road turned out to be good: strong, filled with small gravel, with wooden bridges across the rivers. However in some places there were extensive puddles, which we overcame with preliminary reconnaissance.

And finally, it is the turn to Lupya, as indicated by the road sign. We turned and ended up in a residential village. We stopped at the first courtyard. A man came out and we got to know each other. The man introduced himself as Nikolay, then his wife Elena came out. They decided to place us in a "hunting" house, as the owner put it. He took us to a spacious house, where there was everything for life: a stove, a kitchen, light, beds and even a TV. Nikolai showed us a well with water and invited us to visit. Other villagers were already waiting for us there (13 people live in Lupya in total). They listened with interest to our stories about the purpose of staying here. Nikolai, a connoisseur of these places, gave us good advice on finding the confluence. He told in detail where to turn off, what road awaits us. On that they said good night.
