02-Aug-2021 -- This is the first of 10 CP visits made during a 2 week trip to Sweden.
The next is N63 E18.
This was our first visit to Sweden for 2 years - last year was not possible for an obvious reason - I'll
mention the reason, COVID-19, in case someone is reading this in 10 or 20 years time and wondering
what I'm talking about.
In 2019 we had managed to reach 61 degrees North and the rough plan was to try and visit the CPs
along the 62 and 63 degree lines of latitude - sticking to our usual plan of always going 2 degrees
further North each year. On the way we would try to hike, spend time by the lakes and do some
sightseeing. But the general route was dictated by the CPs.
But first we had unfinished business at N60 E16. We had tried to visit this CP coming from the North
in 2019 but came
across a closed barrier around 7km from the CP. It was already late afternoon so we decided a hike
was not possible so late (14km round trip) and let it go.
Having read previous reports we decided to try from the South. This involved driving about 35km on
rough gravel roads, the last 5km more forest road than gravel. This would become a repeating theme
the further North we progressed.
We parked the car (N60.99787 E16.00743) about 450m from the CP and hiked through fairly open terrain
to the CP.
The usual
photos were taken, we hiked back and then had the pleasure of the 5km back to the gravel roads, pleased
to get back without damage to the hire car.
Our next destination was N63 E18, but that was in a few days.
