11-Jul-2009 -- This CP is located 2000 m above sea level on a spur of Greenland´s big ice cap, in neighbourhood to a separated smaller cap, called Sukkertoppen (meaning sugar top). Each of the three nearest settlements, Kangerlussuaq/Søndre Strømfjord, Manitsoq/Sukkertoppen and Kangamiut/Gamle Sukkertoppen is 110 km away. Any approach to the region of the CP can hardly be done in less than 2-4 weeks, provided that an access is possible from the inner part of the Evighedsfjord (eternity fjord), called Qingua Kujatdleq. Otherwise more time will be necessary to reach the area on land, say from Kangerlussuaq. Such expedition would require experience in climbing glaciers and crossing the many strong rivers running from glaciers. For geographical details we refer to the 1:500 000 Saga Map No. 3 "Kangerlussuaq-Nuuk".

Punctually 10.30 a.m. our Air Greenland DASH-7 (DHC-7) took off from Kangerlussuaq, heading to Nuuk/Godthåb where we arrived 11.25 a.m. The position of the airplane could not be measured by GPS from the cabin but was ascertained by visual inspection of the ground and comparisons with the JNC (Jet Navigation Chart) No. 20 (1:2 000 000).

It turned out that we followed the 51°W-longitude. Minutes after leaving the air field we had a look to CP 67°N/51°W, we visited two years ago. Then, 10.50 a.m. we were above 66°N/51°W. Here we shot Photo 1, view SW along the Evighedsfjord and its most inner part, and Photo 2, view W. Photo 1 helps to understand the area around another CP, namely 66°N/52°W. For more details see that report. Later, 11.10 a.m., the airplane was over CP 65°N/51°W and we got a glimpse of the CP 65°N/52°W and its surroundings (cf. that CP report).
