01-Jan-2002 -- Started from Boliden at 7:45 a.m. -27 C, moonshine. Arrived at Råneå at about 10:20. Took the west-bank road to Niemisel and arrived at a good starting point for skiing at about 10:50.
This was at a small house just south of Näs farm (where I think the previous attempt started). The owner of the house was sitting in his car and phoned the police. Not because of me. His chopped wood had been stolen during the night.
The police came and took a photo of the suspect wood-thief's footprints. I did so too. I got permission by the owner to ski down to the Råne älv river and did so. It was -34 C. I arrived at 66N 22E after skiing about 700 m at 11:10 and took some photos in a hurry. The confluence is on the Råne älv ice about 200 m east of the western shore. The sun did not reach the place despite of a clear sky.
The GPS turned off itself due to cold batteries, so I had to warm it up in the pocket. On the 700 m way home I had to stop every 100 m to thaw my face and consequently then thaw my hands.
Continued to 66N 24E.
