English narrative

15-May-2005 -- We decided to visit our second point after having passed quite near to it a few times on the road from Kandalaksha to Alakkurti. If you look on a map, the road goes far enough in that direction (about 5 km through a forest), but as it turns out, all the maps show an old road, and now the distance from the road to the confluence is only about 300 m.

Spring is late this year, therefore we headed out to conquer a point, providently having brought skis – and as it turned out, not in vain. Having passed about 120 km on asphalt, we stopped in close proximity to the point. But between us and the point there was a lake covered with ice (#8). Unfortunately, along the shoreline the ice had already melted, and nothing was left but to go around. Here skis were useful. The snow in the woods is in a belt, and because of fairly warm weather (3-4 degrees celsius) the snow was so soft that even on skis we periodically fell knee-deep. Nevertheless, in half an hour we were at the place. From a forested slope a magnificent view (#1) opened up.

Having found with the GPS, as close as possible, the point (#2), we photographed the area in the necessary directions (#3, #4, #5, #6), not overlooking ourselves (#7), and finished a victory lap around the lake, having returned to the automobile from the other side.
