#1: Looking south toward Slidre fiord

10-Mar-2007 -- Eureka is a small weather station on Ellesmere Island. We were there to work at the Polar Environmental Atmospheric Research Lab (PEARL), which is about 15 km from the station. The station is located just south and east of the confluence point, while the lab is located just north and west. After three weeks of passing close by to 80N 86W, we decided to head out to the actual location.

It was -46C and the sun was setting. After walking around in circles on the tundra for awhile, we finally found the exact location. I had to hold the GPS in my mitt to keep the screen from freezing. Batteries also don't work very well in the cold, so we were lucky to have GPS when we got to the spot! A geocache was left last summer, and we left behind a turkish flag (from Asan), a business card (from Tobias), and a CANDAC sticker (the organisation that runs PEARL).
