14-Sep-2004 -- Continued from 39N 39E.

In September 2004 Cenci and I decided to visit 40N 40E in eastern Anatolia. We started by car in Hamburg and drove through the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia/Montenegro and Bulgaria. After a 3500 km ride we finally reached 40N 40E, but on our way we took the chance to visit some other DCPs in Turkey, too.

On 14 September 2004 we visited Tuz Gölü (tuz = salt, göl = lake), a huge salt lake in the Konya district. The lake is really worth a visit. Since it has no drainage, all the rain that feeds it in winter evaporates during the hot and dry summer, forming a thick layer of crystallized salt. You can actually walk on it!

39N 33E is some 20 km northwest of the lake. The GPS showed the confluence point to be 2.5 km off the main road. It was a bright sunny day, so we decided to leave the car and walk. We crossed some recently harvested grain fields and found the spot on a patch of wasteland covered with dry scrub. Not a place to rest for a long time, so we took our pictures and decided to have a look at 39N 31E.
