Just like Cravell had said, the intention to find the Caiapônia confluence was something that would be worrying us some time ago. However, the idea to do it properly was given in April, 13th. Since we are a group formed by the same people from a good time to now on, we quickly organized ourselves in one group formed by 12 people in three 4X4 cars to enjoy the adventure. In fact, it is not always that everything is fine for everybody.

So, in April 21st, 8 of us went out from Taguatinga in two 4X4 pickups (Rochael, Karine, Mell and Kelly in one of them, and Cravell, Cabral, Lilian and Miguel in the other one) around six o’clock in the morning. We drove on paved road. Anápolis and Goiânia (two cities) have been passed by. Then, we stopped for the first time at Firminópolis, kilometer 35th. It was eleven-fourteen a.m., and we stopped for a fuel supply. Then, we passed in Aurilândia, a beautiful town that is used for landings.

The next town we registered is Cachoeira de Goiás (Cachoeira, in English is waterfall). In fact, there is not a big waterfall there, but a small one called Água Santa. The people from this town told us that there is a marvelous waterfall in Ivolândia. When we were in Ivolândia, we decided to get a non-paved road, where we realized that we were near the City of Stone. It was not so easy to find it, and we have got a little bit confused. We kept on driving without having known that place because we were worried about the time that we would arrive at Caiapônia. 609 km in the end, remembering that we drove a bit more trying to find the City of Stone.

In April, 22nd at eight-fifty a.m., we went out in order to look for the confluence 17S52W. Cabral has estimated 1: 1.000.000 the coordinates from a determinate point at the highway (south exit that goes out from Caiapônia, passing by Estância, and then by Jataí). From that point on, we would have to leave that paved road in order to search the confluence. The chosen way of approximation was to transpose the Pântano mountain range.

Then, it was the beginning of a long 4X4 expedition until we find a more adequate point to start walking to meet the confluence. The first “dead end” marked by our GPS, would be more than 12 km far from our “geocache”, inside a beautiful small farm. We would like to start walking from that place on, but we took a more refined look and we could realize that the land was not that good and there was abundant vegetation.

We met two riders who explained us how to get to another farm. So, we decided that we would have to find a better way. We had come back to the highway and began a new 4X4 expedition. However, we could not find or see that referred farm.

We finally found a point that would be relatively near the confluence (5,6km far from it), and decided to start walking. We had marked the waypoint, and went out at twelve-fifty one p.m. going in the west direction from that place. The weather was 93.2 Fahrenheit degrees. Around two o’ clock p.m., we walked down the rising of a hill very acclivitous. From that point on, the advances started to happen in a more slow way, passing through dirty fields, tracks with unfixed rocks, woods near rivers, ruts… By analyzing our advance, we realized that it would not be possible to complete that walking session before the sunset. Then, we stopped to reflect upon the situation. Kelly and Mell had decided to go back, and the rest of the group decided to keep on going, as fast as they could, to find the confluence before the night comes. We left some radios, GPS and the walking tracklog so far, and some extra batteries with the two girls. Then, we had continued. Remaining people: Cabral, Rochael, Karine, Cravell, Lilian and Miguel.

We had reached the confluence at four- ten p.m., and we were very satisfied. It has been a very hard conquest. We had stopped a little in order to rest and take some pictures, but we could not stay at that place for a long time. The way back would probably be harder if the sunset happened before we walk upon the rut that we had walked down at 2 p.m.

We could establish contact with Mell and Kelly. They had not arrived at the car yet. We started the return at four twenty-two.

At that moment, we were really tired, specially Lilian. She had even been helped at some parts of the route, but we could finish the return even faster than when we went hunting the confluence. We had concluded the ascension of the rut around six-fifteen p.m.., when we could appreciate a marvelous sunset and the emerging of a beautiful full moon. Thirty minutes later, we had to use our lamps, and the darkness would make more difficult the identification of the marks made by us to transpose the hardest parts of the route.

Nevertheless, we could arrive at the car at seven-thirty p.m., where we could meet Mell and Kelly. They had told us that they have arrived a little bit more than one hour and a half ago due to the moderated way of walking.

We had began our way back to Caiapônia, facing some difficulties in a 4X4 track, in which one of the vehicles had an enormous difficulty to overcome because it did not have differential blockage. Even though all these things had happened, we could arrive without bigger problems around ten o’ clock in the night. The celebration happened ion the following day at the São Domingo Waterfall, which is considered the most beautiful waterfall in the region.
