1st confluence out of a trip of 5

The route from Poznań to Silesia that I was to travel on business runs quite close to some confluences, so I planned it in the way that enabled me visiting them. I decided to visit 52N 19E as the first one.

I left Poznań as early as at 6:15. For mid-June the weather was rather bad – chilly (11 C) and rainy. To Konin I got comfortably on A2 highway, later on I had to travel on “Polish roads” (an ironic term used to describe roads of very bad quality) through Tuliszków, Turek, Uniejów, and Kłudna (where the nearest railway station to the confluence is located – once I planned to go there by train but consecutive changes in timetable made it impossible) to Wartkowice. Further way ran as described in detail by Mr. Włodek Kania – near the bus stop in the centre of Wartkowice (next to a small square with a shrine and a monument) I turned north-west, in the direction pointed out by the signposts Świnice Warckie (11 km) and St. Faustina's sanctuary. After 2700 m (and 2000 m past a road sign marking the town limits) there was a solitary, bright green house on the right side of the road. I drove a bit further to a place where a new section of A2 highway was being built, saw the information board and returned to the green house where I headed south-east.

Having covered ca. 400 m on a dirt road I came to the building site again. There I turned right, went another 200 m in south-west direction, along the highway route and the GPS receiver showed that the confluence was only several dozen meters away. At 8:30 I parked my car at the edge of the building site access road, changed my shoes to hiking boots (the best would be rubbers, though) and went for the search of the confluence point. Intensive works were carried out at the building site with many people involved so my presence there did not arise any interest – probably I was perceived as someone from the technical staff, particularly with “this” device hanging on my neck. But instead to the highway I went in the opposite direction – to a pasture.

I crossed an electric fence and entered a nice, vivid green meadow. A herd of cows grazing there was kind enough to gather at the edge of the pasture, so I could easily locate the CP with 4 m accuracy. I took commemorative pictures and feeling slightly cold (it was only 14 C) quickly returned to the car. I warmed up with hot tea I prudently took with me while the cows, puzzled about my presence on their territory, moved closer to the confluence point. All credit to them they hadn’t done that earlier… Past 9:00 I set off on my further journey. Following the same route I returned to Wartkowice, crossed the Ner River and through Stary Gostków went south, towards 51°N 19°E
