06-Aug-2005 --

If someone asks a confluence hunter: what is the best thing that you can do in your birthday? He will definetly answer: finding a confluence point, of course! And that’s how it happened on my 21st birthday, a group conformed by me (Alfredo Jr.), my girlfriend Valentina, and my very good friends Jesús, Jhoset, Ángel and Oscar departed from Caracas at 6 am to San Casimiro´s town located in the road that leads to Camatagua´s dam.

We arrived to La Vega´s Ranch and spoke to the owner Ms. Rosa who very nicely gave us permission to explore her land and to park our vehicles in front of her house. After that we started walking towards the mountain where a surprise was waiting for us, and it wasn´t the CP.

We crossed the Zuata river without our shoes, the water level was up to my knees, and started looking for a path through the vegetation which grows very much this time of the year, the rainy season in Venezuela goes from May to August

After several attempts we found a path in one side of the grazing area that lead us to the mountain´s bottom. Now we had to start the climbing, oops! sorry the trekking jejeje. So up we go!

A slope very difficult, not fit for people that suffer from fear of heights, and a zigzag-like path in which we were approaching little by little to the CP. One time Tina said: “aw, look at this tiny snake, how cute! Check the colors, has red, black and white stripes”. In that moment we all yelled: watch out is a coral snake!! Is a small snake but very poisonous, it size is completely oppsite to how dangerous it is.

But we didn´t let the little coral to scare us so we continued in our search but now all paranoid, just in case that we bump into with one of the snake cousins. Walking and walking for half hour more until the gps said “approaching to destination”, and then 9, 8, 7, 6, 5… we´ve got the zeroes!!!. Mission acomplished.

We took the usual pictures: the gps, the cardinal points and the group. And descended, when we got to the bottom all overheated we took a dip into the refreshing river.

Until the next CP hunting…

6-Aug-2005-
