20-Oct-2005 -- I was at the International Society of Pharmacovigilance conference in Manila and the days afterwards provided the opportunity to attempt a confluence visit.
Taal Lake and volcano is on every tour company's schedule and as the confluence is on the volcanic island in the middle of the lake it provides a simple and relatively cheap way to get near. We travelled across the lake in an outrigged canoe and trekked up to one to the crater of one of the three volcanoes (Pic 1). The confluence is towards the left hand edge of this panorama beyond the far crater rim. The closest we got was 1.99 km (Pic 2) and unfortunately I couldn't persuade our guide and my fellow tourists that it was worth a further hike across the island through the scrubby vegetation in horrendouus heat and humidity.
