09-Dec-2005 -- The narrative of this visit will be a transcription of one of the chapters of my story of Halada Expedition , the origin of a curious and interesting trip to a volcanic area of the pampean plains.

A LOCAL BERMUDAS´S TRIANGLE

We left the “Lunaclick Shopping” [an old closed warehouse which dates from 1924] and went back the sandy 8 km until route 14; from there, we took route 143, crossed the Salado River, with a very powerful flow of water nowadays and entered in the pampean Bermudas´s Triangle, defined by La Reforma, Colonia 25 de Mayo and Santa Isabel.
For giving a local touch, we renamed it the “Bombachas´s Triangle”, because they are the typical trousers of our peasants, the “gauchos”, instead of the foreigner bermudas.
The zone is a big and very plain area that was in old days the bed of the rivers Salado and Atuel’s confluence, when the neighbouring province of Mendoza allowed the passing of the water instead of using it for irrigation like now. Today, there is rarely water, but it´s clear that it is a flooded area. This situation has originated a long conflict between the two provinces due to the own of the water.
From Paso de Los Algarrobos by an imagining route 104, we drived towards Puelen, but thinking that if the route 16 existed to east and we found it, we’d detour directly to the basaltic plateau where we’d visit the Halada´s Cavern and the Agua Poca volcano.
When we passed over the paralell 37°S, we realized that we were at 9600 meters from the confluence with the meridian 67°W. We didn’t have enough time to attempt catching it, but at least we took the minimal photographs to publish it as an incomplete visit. A white square in my personal confluence’s map surely will remind me that I will have to convert it in a successful visit.
The route 16 appeared according to our satellital photographs and we took it ahead to the west, at first by the bed of the rivers and then climbing by the hills, where the vestiges of volcanic activity began to appear. Practically, there weren’t paths of recent transit of vehicles in our course until the place “Valle Bonito”, switching dunes with closed woodland of bushes.

In another future trip by the zone, we will dedicate enough time to convert in a successful visit.
