27-Jan-2006 -- KM 3753: SIBERIA EN LA PATAGONIA

27-Jan-2006 -- KM 3752: SIBERIA IN PATAGONIA

This is the third visit of the chain that we’ve visited during our Holidays 2006 after the ups and downs of the day 8th; previous visit was 50°S 72°W .

After having established our tent at La Siberia ranchouse by the side of the Route 40 in the middle of the patagonian plateau, we attempted to reach a near confluence, 49°S 71 °W, already visited successfully by Julian Rossi walking directly from the route.

We would try to approach more than him with our 4WD car by a practically hidden path at the east of the route that according the data given by a peasant of La Siberia could be very useful.

We slowly advanced by that path, which was getting more hidden every time, until it become nearly impossible to see. With a big effort, we continued over the agressive bushes for at least 500 meters but it was too dangerous for the tires thinking in the long trip ahead. We couldn´t reduce in much the distance to the confluence from the route used by Julian. The odometer of the trip indicated 3,752 km.

The evening was finishing and continuing would mean returning without daylight. We decided to stop there. We had another incomplete visit to complete in the future.

La Siberia is one of the many ranches that changed the typical sheep raising by tourism and it is a good access to go fishing in Cardiel lake, giving an enough protected place for the always strong Patagonian winds.

Our trip continued during the Day 9th.

The next confluence of the chain was the remote 48°S 72°W in the borders of the Perito Moreno National Park.
