4th confluence out of a trip of 5

Continued from 50°N 23°E

The spring was in the air. After long, frosty and snowy winter, warm days have finally come and a rapid snow melt began. Since the ground was still frozen the runoff from fields was considerable. But many of the roadside ditches were clogged up causing mini-rivers to flow over the roadways. I covered the way from Jarosław via Biłgoraj and Frampol towards Krasnystaw on second-class roads what in Poland meant (specifically after winter) “bumpy pothole road”. Several times, while driving across full of water holes, my car was flooded up to its roof.

Via Gorzków, Orchowiec, and Nowiny I reached the village of Majdan Krzywski. I parked the car at the shoulder of the road and came up to the house nr 43. There was a little brook running along the road which was probably very narrow normally, but at that time it turned to a wide rushing stream. GPS showed that the confluence point lay at the rear of buildings so I asked the homeowner for a permission to go through her property and having been granted it I went to an open field located behind the farm houses. At first I had to force my way through deep snow, then I went out on a ploughed field.

Mud, mud, mud was all around. I put special gaiters on my trousers and protected in that way I searched for the “zero” point. I found it ca. 30 m from the eastern border of the field, among black currant bushes. Weather was perfect – beautiful sun and a nice warm but under my feet there was water, snow, and mud and my shoes sprung a leak. I took the pictures and returned back to the car. I thanked the housewife for the entrance permission and – since she was a bit intrigued why I hung around her field – I presented her the idea of the Degree Confluence Project.

Polski

Zrobiłem zdjęcia i zawróciłem do samochodu.
