#1: View of the confluence looking north west

(visited by Rod Kevill and Sandra Kevill)

26-Mar-2006 -- This visit was the third of three new confluences that we managed to complete on a 10-day trip from Perth to Alice Springs via the Great Central Road, then south to Coober Pedy and back through Kingoonya to Wirulla and across the Nullabor to Perth - a total of 6,500km.

We had contacted the Woomera Prohibited Area control officer (Wally Broome) for permission to enter the area and had phoned Rick Mould, the owner of Coondambo station.

Leaving the van at Glendambo, we drove south along Stuart Highway and called in to the station where Rick told us we were lucky that we were running a day late from our original schedule. The track out to the confluence had been closed the previous day due to a test rocket firing in the area.

Continuing out past the homestead to the NE, we turned off the track at about 16km and headed SW across fairly open country to within about 50m of the confluence. Having taken the usual set of photos, we headed back to Glendambo to collect the van, re-fuel, and begin the long return trip to Perth via Kingoonya, Wirulla and the Nullabor.

Apart from enjoying a great trip through central Australia, we had completed all three of our planned confluences with surprising ease.
