30-Aug-2006 -- In my case, the geographic confluences are also confluences with friends and this wouldn’t be the exception.

Due to my "addiction to the confluences" every time I have plans about a trip, the first thing I do is to see if any confluence may "accidentally" be in my way and if possible, I try to participate some of my friends of the experience, baptizing new hunters.

This opportunity, friends that we had known in our old work invited Eduardo and me a couple of days to Lima city (Peru), in order to transmit some of our labour experiences.

One of the days that we were there turned out to be holiday and we only worked in the morning, so naturally the opportunity appeared to capture of confluence. August 30th in Peru is a National Holiday where they remember Santa Rosa of Lima, pattern of Lima and Peru. She was a nun canonized many years ago and among other remarkable aspects of its life, the legend tells that at a certain moment of the colonial time there by century 17th, Dutch pirates who wanted to take the control of the city were moved away by an unexpected storm in the sea that "had been promoted" by prayers headed by her in a Church of the city.

The storm of Santa Rosa is very famous in my country of origin and it is expected every year for this time.

In the evening, after having lunch in the Larcomar Complex on the cliffs of Lima city, with a beautiful landscape of the Pacific Ocean, I convinced Eduardo and another close friend, Jorge, to become new Hunters of Confluences, taking advantage of the proximity to the point 12°S 77°W.

This confluence point is in a suburb to the northeast of the centre of Lima, that according to the commentaries of our Peruvian friends, doesn’t have very good reputation and they recommended us no to go alone.

Then we asked our Peruvian hosts to facilitate us a driver and a vehicle and then we went to the objective by the narrow and zigzagging streets of Lima.

As we moved away of downtown we checked why the bad reputation of the suburb, called “SAN JUAN DE LURIGANCHO”. It was a good decision to go accompanied by a Peruvian driver.

When we arrived near of the confluence, located exactly on the boulevard of the Avenue Santa Rosa, it was great our surprise that the point was exactly on... a mountain of dirty garbage!

What Memorial to identify the site! I hadn’t seen something similar.

Although the site is clearly that defined in the visit # 3, there were changes in the activity of the commerce and the colours of the constructions. Evidently, there are changes in a city over the years.

To position the GPS exactly and to take the pictures was like a great adventure: three foreigners in an outlying area in the middle of an avenue were, doubtless, very flashy and an invitation to the robbery. So, very nervous we did it as soon as possible, under the thoughtful supervision of our Peruvian driver, that later we knew that for our security, he was armed.

Also a pair dogs watched us without understanding what we were doing in its "free dining room".

But whatsoever, there were two new Confluence Hunters on the Earth’s face and for me it was a new experience different from all the previous ones: an urban confluence.

Meanwhile we returned very happy and quiet to downtown of Lima, the very odd public transportation that exists in the outlaid districts of the city called our attention: the auto rickshaw, that by one “sol” (Peruvian currency equal to 1/3 of dollar) carried you to any part in a likeable multicoloured vehicle that seems a toy, in the middle of the crazy and disordered traffic of Lima.

Another curiosity, is that even some places like the same confluence denote a lack of care from the authorities for the aspect of the city, in Lima it never rains, which is translated in showy situations because most of the streets don’t have side drainages, the ceilings of most of the constructions are flat and without water-drainages and everything is full of dust. Except for a few months of the year, it’s always cloudy and it seems on the verge of raining, but rare time you can find something wet and it is impossible to find a puddle.
