02-Feb-2007 -- Advancing into the setting sun we came to the little hamlet of Cassilis. I wasn't too sure how to aproach this confluence so it looks like it was going to be trial and error. That often means trial and horror but in this case it was rather easy.

Going through Cassilis I came to a secondary road that took us so near to the confluence we could have spat on it without getting out of the car. O.K. that's an exageration but just. It was only a hundred metres or so from the road and when I shouted "Who wants to come with me?" my son was right there so Yannick and I went for a little walk. The cracked soil bears the tale of a sad state of drought that Australia is in. In the distance, a couple of men were busy in the field and must have wondered what a guy and a young child might want to do in the middle of an empty field.

We got back to the car triumphant and drove through a hail storm. Fortunately no damage was done to our car nor to the camper trailer. We camped just outside a little place called Sofala. That is an absolutely charming little town north of Bathurst where several gold miner's cottages and other building remain. As a carpenter I thought it would have been a challenge to fix some of them as they all seem to be out of square, plumb or level. But then again, that's what makes them charming. Next up 33S 149E
