The 1st Guangxi Confluence Hunt of the Group

A 3 days workshop at Behai ( 北海 ) presented the opportunity for the first hunt in 2007. The mild weather by the coast of South China Sea made this a great get-away from the winter of northern China.

The confluence point located ~67 km GPS distance from the Silver Beach of Behai. The first half of the approach was an easy 30 minutes on the South-North Expressway of Guangxi. The second half was slower when we started on a unpaved road 27 km south from the confluence point.

Four km after passing the nearest town – Na Si (那思) Township - we found a small and rough road heading east into the hill with 4 .5 km GPS distance left to go. It took more than 30 minutes to crawl to a little village with 1.3 km further to go where we started walking.

The approach by foot pretty much followed series of valleys. We took the wrong turn at the final 200 meters and went over a hill and descended into the backyard of a farm house and found the confluence point located 5 meters from a dirt road which we could have taken.

This confluence point located in a recently prepared field, and about 40 meters from the nearest house. This tiny village has 25 households and we did not spend much time visiting knowing that we are expected for a banquet in Behai.

The name of the village is called Xi Huang Nan Cun(细黄南村) which is part of Na Si Township. Most of the surrounding areas are hills planted with sugar cane.

Upon return, we learned that the previous visit by Targ and company was from the opposite direction with a 7 km hike!

Rating of this hunt :

Degree of Challenge:

2 – A rather long drive with a slow approach for the last 3-4 km (1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)

Scenery:

3 – Pleasant hill country with scenery relatively unique for China (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)

Culture-social factors:

2– Very rural Guangxi farming community area (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
