10-Mar-2007 -- This Confluence wasn't expected to be easy to reach, though not very far from a road. It proved to be true!
On my way to Bafoussam in the West Province of Cameroon, I decided to have a try to the Confluence. According to the map, there is a 120-km "All-Weather secondary road" between the highway Yaoundé-Bafoussam and Foumbot. However, I wasn't very confident in the condition of that road. The Confluence can be reached after 30 km on this road.
Good news: at the beginning of the road, there is a big sign. It says:
Here the Ministry of Transport of Cameroon re-builds the road Bafia-Foumbot
Expected execution time: 2 months
The sign was dated: 2001-2002.
We were at the end of the dry season, but it had just rained the day before, and leaving the asphalted road, we very soon met our first difficulties. The works haven't been done, the track was very rough, and we drove at a very reduced speed. We had to be very careful not to get the wheels into the deep ruts. The air temperature was high, and after 45 minutes, when we had driven only 5 km, we decided to come back.
For the next attempt, the better solution will be to hire a motorbike at the beginning of the track, and take our time.
