02-Mar-2007 -- We left Ljubljana at 8 am on a cloudy morning and headed towards Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the way we passed through several cities and national borders, like Metlika, the Slovene-Croatian border, Karlovac, the Croatian-Bosnian border,… We reached Velika Kladuša (BiH) around 12 o'clock and continued our way passing through Cazin and Skokovi. Finally we reached the village of Donja Koprivna where we left our car at the local transport service Veladžič.
From there on our search continued by foot and we headed towards the preset coordinates on the Garmin GPS. But as luck would have it something went wrong in the transmission of coordinates from the computer to the GPS device and we found ourselves approx. 300 m away from the confluence of 45°N16°E. I then proceeded to locate the confluence with the GPS via the satellites
We managed to locate the point on the bottom of a small ravine, right by a stream. I set a T-shaped marker on the confluence point and oriented it in the N-S direction. I should mention that rain was falling almost constantly while we were searching for the confluence.
The landscape in which the confluence is located is dotted with hills, all of which are not higher than 600 m a.s.l. The area around the confluence is heavily forested.
This part of the country is densely populated with the Bosniak ethnic group.
After locating the confluence, we headed back to the car and drove, first towards Cazin, and then on to Sarajevo.
