(visited by Glenn R. Harshman)

18-Mar-2007 -- Had to drive to Atlanta on March 18th, 2007, so I took a side trip to visit the CP in Gadsden, Alabama. It was a lovely day, and I had plenty of time to enjoy the Sunday morning tranquility. The closest point on dry land has been reported as a river bank behind an apartment complex. I also found that to be true.

I approached from the west on I-759, driving until it ended at Hood Avenue. I made a left, drove past the new Lowes store on the left, then made a left into the apartment complex. I drove all the way to the back of the complex and parked. From there, I was about 160 meters to the CP. In the apartment complex, they were adding new buildings, but they were not encroaching on the little field on the river side of the complex. I crossed the little field and made my way over a small inlet to get as close to the river tangent point as possible. I calculate that I stopped at a point bearing 040.5 degrees from the CP at a distance of 48.43 meters. My accuracy, according to Señor Magellan, was 10 feet WAAS. Next time, maybe I'll bring a canoe.
