#1: The Spot

(visited by Stephan Theriault)

05-May-2007 -- It was time for another corner, this time Haddon corner. It doesn't appear to have the same glamour as Cameron or Poeppel but we weren't going to miss it just for that reason.

Again the confluence is not where the marker is. It is nearly half a kilometre too far to the North. We had to cross two sand dunes to get there and that is a clear indication that we were getting into the Strezelecki Desert. It is also near the gibber plains, which surround Innamincka, where we stayed the night before. A remote and desolate place. You have to feel sorry for Burke, Wills and the other explorers in the same party who were confronted with the vastness of this land. In the relative comfort of the car and camper trailer, it was easy to step back and enjoy the emptiness and solitude of the desert though.
