25-Nov-2007 -- We just spent two days at the Kingdom of Sukur in the Northeast of Nigeria bordering the Mandara Mountains in Cameroon. Sukur is a cultural World Heritage Site.

The time check is 6 a.m. and we are starting our return trip to Abuja after spending the previous night at Gombe. The road takes us to Biu, then connects to Gombe where there is a turn-off towards Yola. The information we gathered from people who travelled on this road before, made us understand that this road is apparently very scenic but in a very bad condition. However, the distant location from Abuja was the main reason we never attempted to visit this Confluence. Now we are in Gombe most likely the last time for a long time and had a few hours to spare. We were not really prepared to visit a Confluence but decided to give it a go even just to see how close we could get. We made our enquiries on how to get to the village Tumu.

It did not take long before we found out that the Governor of Gombe State is from this village and that there was a good road leading to it. We drove on a newly built road as close as 115 meters to the Confluence. We could not believe our luck. The Confluence was located at the Agricultural School of Tumu in the middle of a field of beans. Some women were busy with the harvest. They did not pay any attention to us and carried on with their work while we made the necessary documentation.

We had a short discussion with some of the staff of the school before we returned to Gombe and continued our journey towards Abuja. We were very excited about this surprisingly effortless visit to this virgin Confluence and considered to visit the confluence 10N 9E, which is located around 5 km next to the road outside the town of Jos, which is on our route back to Abuja.
