01-Dec-2007 -- Stayed overnight in Ranua after a hard conference day in Rovaniemi. Two 66N confluences lie north of the Ranua - Kemi road, and I decided to give both a try.
66Nx26E lies about 100 m from the intersection of the Alkulantie (Alkula road) and a forest gravel road leading due east. I saw about 20 reindeer on the fields and a flock of 50 black grouse landed in the birch trees. I made a short tour on skis in the area, but the 100 m to the confluence was foot-walking terrain. Not much snow in the forest. Not far from the confluence was the starting point of a hiking trail. The picture of the trail sign may serve better as an overview picture of the area, rather the overview picture inside the dense forest, where sight was very limited.
