15-Apr-2008 -- The vacation plan was good. Fly in to Cagliari, do the city in one day, then get a car and start with the cp in Pula, drive along the west coast and crisscross the mountains, visit the two remaining cps and leave the car and the island in St. Theresa in the North.
Monday 14. April turned out to be election day and car rentals in town were closed but open at the airport. At the bus station we bought our tickets and were told to rush as the bus was about to leave from platform 8. We ran and got to the platform as a bus arrived and a handful of people with luggage got on board. The bus set off within a few minutes. We headed out of town, got on to a motorway, passed the airport and realized something was wrong. We decided to get off when the bus stopped. Three hours later we left the express bus, at Sassari, about 200 km north of Cagliari.
We enjoyed a great day in the charming city, reorganized our programme and next morning set out in a Fiat Punto which had done nearly 200.000 km. Pula and the southern part of the island was dropped. N41/E9 was easy, thanks to the good description by the second visitors to the cp.
But the last 36 meters to the cp turned out to be a challenge. A small stream had to be crossed, or we could cross it by a small bridge a bit further on and then walk back to the actual point. The next challenge was a fence behind which was a flock of sheep and a furious and barking sheep dog. We settled for a visit at a distance of 36 meters.
