07-Jun-2008 -- 2nd confluence out of a trip of 4

Continued from 48°N 16°E

On my way from the confluence 48˚N 16˚E to Carinthia I stopped in Bad Waltersdorf in Styria (German: Steiermark) – a well-known thermal spa resort that was chosen by football team coach Leo Beenhakker as the Poland’s Euro 2008 base camp. The little Austrian town was flooded with Polish journalists and fans, however the players were away – they had already gone to Klagenfurt for their first match against Germany that was to be held the following day. I took the pictures of the Der Steirerhof hotel where they stayed and continued my journey to the south. After a violent downpour that I had experienced on the motorway the weather improved and the sun came out.

I left the A2 motorway (die Süd Autobahn) at Ilz-Fürstenfeld exit and following my car GPS navigation I drove some very narrow side roads, winding picturesquely among fields and hills. It was a typical agricultural region, quiet and idyllic in afternoon sun. I passed through numerous villages and at half past four I finally reached the village of Tiefenbach. The confluence point lay right in the middle of the road. There was a characteristic green house to the east and a railway track some 100 m away to the west (I noticed it because a train was just passing by).

I took the usual pictures and after less than a quarter-hour I was back in the car. To the motorway I returned following some other way – via Hatzendorf and Riegersburg (a bit longer but much more comfortable). At 18:00 I arrived at Graz where I stayed overnight.

Polski
