Confluence 13N 86W is located in hilly farm country in the coffee growing region of the Central Highlands of Nicaragua at an altitude of approximately 887m above sea level. We drove from Managua, leaving at 09:00 and logged the confluence at 14:52 having stopped only for lunch in Matagalpa.
Following the advice of the previous (unsuccessful) attempt to visit 13N 86W, we drove from the south along what was then a dirt track and is now the Mataglapa Bypass, under construction, but fully sealed up to and beyond a point approximately 1.4km northwest of the confluence. We drove as far as a farm located 1.15km from the confluence and parked the car there.
It was then an easy walk along a stony track (passable with a heavy-duty 4WD, if desired) towards an abandoned house on the same farm's property. 13N 86W is located approximately 100m from this house and only 40m off the track on a south-facing slope. The farm land was not being used at the time of the visit and was covered with a 1m undergrowth of thorny bushes in an area of sparse low tree cover. The black soil underfoot was locally boggy (this was the wet season) but the confluence is easily accessed.
