13-Sep-2008 -- We (Ann and I) started out the day around 0900. We had intended on getting out a little earlier, but you know how things go! We looked up the route in our DeLorme software the night before and loaded it on out Earthmate PN-20. Well, when we got to where we needed it and turned it on, the route was not there. Gone! So we looked at the Gazetteer and found our way to the road we needed. It is called the Stud Mill Road. It runs from just east of Bangor to nearly the Canadian border. Oh, it is a dirt road!

We drove about 40 miles east and took a detour to do a Geocache nearby. It took us about an hour and then we were on our way. We found our way down fire road 38-00-0. It was about a mile and a half or so. We were able to park right on the 45th parallel and at about W 068.00.085 if memory serves me right. Ann had a bum foot, so I walked most of the way in to see if it would be OK for her to walk. The forest was not particularly dense and it wasn't too bad to walk through, so I went back and got her. It only took 5 minutes or so for us to find the general area and another minute or so to zero in on the target. This time we were able to get the GPS to zero right in on the confluence. We had to hold it right up against about a 20 year old spruce tree. It was almost as if that tree was planted on the confluence.

The forest growth in the area was not dense, but full. There was a large variety of hard woods and soft woods. We found blackberries and blue berries to snack on. To our east, a grouse was thrumming its wings and it was kind of eerie.
