20-Jul-2008 --

N11 W72

This hunt was made on July 20 / 2008, having our friend's collaboration Héctor Carrero who since the hunt of the CP N10 W72, he committed in planning the logistics to visit the CP N11 W72, located to the northwest of the State Zulia, to some 60 kms of Maracaibo, in the El Derrote sector very near of Carrasquero population, in the Mara Municipality of this State.

To fulfill our objective, we travel the previous day from Barquisimeto to Maracaibo where we spent the night in some friends' house, beginning the hunt next day at 8 am and the meeting point was at the Republic Square. Once the group was completed on site, distributed in three vehicles and constituted by Tavel, Tavel Alejandro, Eva, Héctor, Luis, María and me Rosalda, we took the highway that leads from Maracaibo to The Moján whose official denomination is the Troncal 6 or Troncal del Caribe. After traveling 17.6 km kilometers from the control point of the Regional Command Number 3 of the National Guard (CORE3) to the exit to the north of Maracaibo, we arrived to a bifurcation named Las Cruces or Nueva Lucha where we took the left road to West and after drive about 9 kilometers we arrived to another bifurcation in named Cuatro Bocas where we took the road to Carrasquero population in Northwest bearing. Later, after traveling 28.8 kilometers we arrived to El Derrote sector, 3 kilometers before arriving to Carrasquero. All these roads are paved and it is observed in them heavy traffic of trucks transporting the coal mined in this municipality that is taken to Santa Cruz de Mara port and exported for the south of the United States and Europe.

The arrival point in the Sector El Derrote it is located in N 11 00 34.6 W 71 59 54.2, and there some friends were waited for us, Edixon Paz and his son Carlos, locals experts and well-known in the area who they would be our guides and companions in the adventure, that which was since a guarantee of security this area to be border guard certain danger for us.

Now with our guides, we took the road in Southwest bearing that drives to Guasare Coal mines, and after traveling about 770 meters we arrived to the entrance of a dirty road in Southeast bearing, now on road we drove approximately for 700 m and arrived to the entrance of El Cotoperí Farm, property of the Mr. Richard Amaya where is the CP.

Mr. Amaya, present in that moment, kindly allowed us to enter to its property toward the cattle where the GPS indicated us was the CP, thing that we not made without before pass a corral full with manure; when entering to the land lot where the cattle were, we discover that it was waterlogged, since the variety of grass “forrajero” used in this country property, is watered by the flood system.

Once sunken our feet in the swamp, we succeed to reach all the zeros in the minutes and seconds in our GPS, obviously after making the glorious confluence dance. We took the pictures and we celebrate on place with some very cold drinks together with our friends and also with José Páez, an Amaya´s friend, who was there. The point we hunted at the 10:25 am and an altitude of 3 m.a.s.l.

The economic activity in the area, it is based on multiple sources of primary production: it is a cattle region, producer of bovine and ovine, with production of milk and meat, equally this is an area of agricultural production, because to the being these lands formed by sediment from Guasare River for thousands years. This river downstream changes it name to Limón River up to river´s mouth at Maracaibo Lake. The agricultural activity is very successful especially in harvest of fruit such as watermelon, melon, papaya and tomato, among others.

Another important economic item in this area is the mining exploitation of coal that for 20 years approximately is carried out in this municipality, the mineral coal, it is extracted of the mining concessions that Corpozulia owns in the area. This is regional development organisms that provide assistance through its affiliates Coal of the Zulia, which has conform the companies Coal of the Guasare and Coal of the Goajira, to explode, to transport and to embark the coal of the mines Paso Diablo and Mina Norte located to the northwest of this municipality. The estimated production for the year 2008, it is respectively 6.2 and 1.2 million tons, of thermal coal of high quality very well quoted in the international energy market. A high percentage of the obtained benefits of the use of this natural resource, are reinvested by Corpozulia in social works for the nearby communities to the area of mining exploitation, located in the municipalities Mara and Páez of Zulia state.
