08-Dec-2008 -- We were spending a long week-end at Best Of Africa Resort near Sassandra town (by the way this place is really paradisiacal). The Confluence appeared to be at 3 km from the resort, so we decided to try to reach it. We were eight in number, 3 couples and two young boys (Clement, 8 years old, and Côme, 4 years old). We were going for a cool trek in the bush with our beach sandals and shorts...

We were able to reach a small village with our car at only 1 km from the confluence. There we met Olivier, a bus driver from the place. He kindly accepted to lead us through the bush. We walked along a rough road towards our goal. At about 500 m from it we had to use a footpath through cocoa fields. Everything went right till we reached 150 m to the Confluence. Those last meters were really hard to go; it was proper tropical bush with 2 m high weeds, broken trees, and decaying wood, the serious slope was also not helping!

We eventually reached the Confluence. We realised at that point that we were really tired, sweating seriously and only 1 litre of water for the 8 of us. The heat was rising up probably to 35° Celsius with atmosphere humidity of about 90%.

Because the last 150 m were so hard to cross, we decided to try to find another way back: big mistake!!! We reach to a point that we had to pass through dense scrubs, brambles, and bushes crawling on our knees. After 30 minutes we had progressed by less than 100 m, we had then no other option than to go back by the same way we came.

When we reached back at our car 1 hour and 30 minutes later, we were properly exhausted but really happy of the "adventure".

Special thanks to our excellent guide Olivier.
