#1: The Confluence seen from 50 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

17-Apr-2009 -- This report is the last out of a series of four confluence visits. The story starts from 31N 36E.

This Confluence is somewhat special and interesting. First of all there has been a big change since it had been visited for the first time back in 1999. Obviously, nine years ago the Confluence was at a small country road between `Ammān and Zarqā'. Now this road is a 2 times 3-lane divided highway and the Confluence is located in (or on top of) a 5 story building. Even compared to the visit by Helmut Resch and Babs Coleman half a year ago, there have been further changes: a fifth floor is now being added on top of the building. The excavator that is visible in front of the building, where now is still an empty space, and the big excavated hole suggest that this area will be built up soon. So, further changes of this Confluence are to be expected. Let's keep an eye on it.

At the western face of the building we measured a distance of 3 m to the Confluence (towards the building). So we went up the stairs and walked over an entrance corridor on the second floor, where we managed to get a zero reading. It was Friday noon (12:52) – so the roads and walkways were not very busy due to prayer time. Some residents started to stare at us, but we were already gone before anybody asked us what we were searching there.

From our parking location in 150 m distance, we had an Arabic style coffee before we continued to downtown `Ammān which is 8.5 km away.
