#1: Location

(visited by Thomas Barthel)

21-Jun-2009 -- Continued from 41N 17E.

The confluence point 45N 11E is located in the north of Italy, about 25 km south east of the city of Mantova. It is easily accessible.

Our big holiday trip from Cyprus to Germany lead us through a hand full of countries. This gave me the opportunity to visit some confluence points. I planned to reach at least one in each country. The third candidate was Italy and this is already my second CP-visit in this state.

After visiting the confluence point 41N 17E, we saw many beautiful places in the middle of the Italian boot. Shortly after leaving Modena with its many impressive arcades in the city centre, we reached the area of the aimed CP. We came from direction south east and I think I switched on my GPS nearby the village of Mirandola. Then we arrived in Quistello and did two circumnavigations of the CP!

We have been twice in Quistello and San Rosso. Puh! So I knew that the location must be located on a field near the rails. I started to drive a dirt road but it ended on a feeder. Enough! I parked the car next to a derelict farm house, short behind the junction of the 'Via Basaglie' into the 'SS496'. I walked by feet towards the CP by passing a path through an elongate pond (to visitor no. 1: I found the passage). It was a Sunday and nobody could be seen in the surrounding and no train was passing. So I took my camera and did the pictures without being observed from anybody (… I think). The first picture of the coordinates had so heavy reflections on the screen that I had to do a second one. At luck it was possible after quite a short time.

I was very glad to visit my second confluence point in Italy on 21 June 2009! At luck there was another possibility to visit a CP in this state during our trip.

Confluence Point 46N-11E shall be the next!
