26-Aug-2009 -- This is the 81st of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January 2008 at 11N 5E.
Story continues from 12S 14E.
The Confluence is situated 720 meters off the N2 between Ndjolé and Mevang in the rainforest. Nearby is the Equator sign.
Coming from the Lope National Park, we made the first attempt to get to this Confluence on 21 August. We were eaten alive by insects and gave up after a short while.
Several days later, we where on route from Libreville to the border of Cameroon and we passed the Confluence again. This time we where better prepared against the insects. Equipped with machetes we made a hundred meters or so, then we abandoned the idea to get to the Confluence. The canopy of the rainforest was so thick; our GPS did not receive any signals.
