25-Mar-2010 -- We visited the site while on a field trip to visit with Arab and Toubou herders who inhabit the area. The field trip was made during a gender study conducted with the herder groups, as part of CARE Danmark's development activities implemented in the Diffa region.

Topography is rolling sand dunes with hollows or valleys in between. Elevation varies about 20 to 50 meters from hilltop to valley. The area is open rangeland with an occasional small field found in some of the hollows. Vegetation is sparse, composed of perennial shrubs and some annual grasses. Rainfall averages around 100 mm per year, the area is therefore considered to be desert. The water table is fairly accessible in the valleys with waterwells being 15 to 30 meters deep.

It was a couple of months ago at a Toubou herders' camp at a place called Tigrimi (15.10941°N 11.99315°E) that I first imagined to visit the Confluence. The picture taken there at sunrise is looking due south towards the Confluence which is 12.2 km away, just behind the farthest horizon. The terrain and vegetation are pretty much the same at both places, so this gives a nice overview of the whole area.
