12-Jun-2010 --

This would be the first of five attempted confluence visits on a trip to Colorado and back. I was on my way from Creede, CO where I had been researching the feasibility of visiting 38N-107W .

It was late afternoon and I parked just west of the intersection of Co Rd T and Co Rd 55 just beyond a 45MPH speed limit sign. I was about 700 meters away from the zeropoint. I set off hiking over the scrub and crossed a single barbed wire fence near the road. It was a quick 7 minute hike on a very windy day in the San Luis Valley. The strong southerly winds created a lot of dust. At the confluence, I used my Spot Satellite GPS Messenger to send a custom message declaring success. I did not see any activity at the nearest house to the southwest or encounter any animals along the way.

Picture #1 looks east. Picture #2 looks south. Picture #3 shows the line of trees to the west. Picture #4 looks north. Picture #5 shows the GPS location. Picture #6 does not capture just how windy it was during my visit.

My journey back to US-285 was 19.7 km and took 21 minutes.

My plan was to reach 39N-106W before sunset!
