19-Feb-2011 --

19-Feb-2011 --

This confluence is located in Costa Rica Ranch, owned by Jean Brun, a few kilometres from El Palmar town. This is why that to coordinate the visit, Tomás Velásquez contacted the owner for the purposes of request permission, setting as the hunting dated 19 February.

The day before, my son and I left Caracas destined to the city of Puerto Ordaz. We arrived at 8:00 pm and we check in the hotel we had reserved Tomás. Once we had dinner and already prepared to relax in our room, I called Tomás to wrap up the details to find us all tomorrow.

After a relaxing break, my son and I left the hotel and we find Tomás on a site where we had for breakfast some delicious “pasteles” with typical cheese of this region. Once we had breakfast, Tomás contacts the rest of the team and they agree to meet at a point in the way to Upata town.

We arrived at the meeting point and while we buy our hydration and celebration kit, arrives the rest of the team of hunters José Estanga, his wife Luisa Aguirre and Perla Echeverria. Accustomed greetings and hugs among friends, continue now journey all gathered our herd toward Costa Rica ranch.

We went through Upata and just at a few kilometers after, we take the road to El Palmar where we could see the large number of agricultural activity in this region. We arrived at the entrance of Costa Rica ranch and the gate was closed, but Thomas gets in contact by cell phone with owner who tells the manager will soon come to open the gate.

Once the gate is open, we go down the internal dirty road until we reach the house where we leave our vehicles. We continue our approaching to the confluence walking and oriented by our GPS. When we get to a lagoon, we take a path on the left that we saw progressed towards the confluence. We passed by some cattle that were grazing and we continuing moving ahead but discover that the confluence was located in a barbed fenced area. We continue walking to the pursuit of our goal and after being 130 meters from the confluence, at about 500 mts from CP we found an access to the area where our objective is located.

We enter into the field where the confluence is, which is filled with a great amount of bushed. Within minutes, we were already doing the glorious Confluence Dance between bushes and weeds. According to GPS reading, this confluence is located at an elevation of 331 masl. After taking the required photos, arrived the guy in charge ranch, who tells us that there was a way more direct for having come to the site passing through the right side of the lagoon. On our return hike we did the short way guided by the guy and once we reach our vehicles proceeded to celebrate this new hunting. We spent a few minutes resting and enjoying the beautiful view of the ranch from the house. This ranch has approximately 5000 ha about 700 cattle. The main activity is cattle for milk production for the purpose of production of fresh cheese typical of this area.

Once the say goodbye to the guys in the ranch, we go back to Puerto Ordaz, making a strategic stop at La Herradura restaurant located on the outskirts of the city. As said the restaurant advertising notice, is antistress and located inside a small farm dedicated to horse breeding. While we had a good BBQ, we talked about the beauty of the area and the possibilities of forthcoming hunts of Confluence.
