25-Jun-2011 -- This event represented a challenge for my family, because the 23/04/2011 we had tried to reach it after dividing ourselves from the group that had an excellent participation on the Easter Holidays in 2011, achieving successfully N08 W065 the 22nd and N09 W065 the 23rd. That same day we had the good luck to meet with the Team Vincenzo Vecchio who came from hunting the N09 W064, and were going for N9 W065. The encounter was at the exit of the town of Pariaguan, where we exchanged information about the confluence. We had the chance to take pictures of the group, we said goodbye and continued our way to N09 W064 unfortunately we could not reach it in this opportunity; we were at 103 Mts away from our objective.

This confluence represented our fourth visit, after consulting and re-planning deciding to undertake a new challenge this time with Oscar Gonzalez who was in the area coming from Caracas in a visit to his family and who previously had visited this confluence, being of great help due to his experience. After preparing ourselves the night before with all the necessary things (thanks to Alfredo Remón, Edgar Méndez, Rainer Bostelmann, Ramón Alemán and to all, for their recommendations in reference to what is needed and indispensable to take for the excursions), we started off from Maturin in the Eco Sport, the family, Carmen Elena Morales, Heleanny Toledo, Arianny Toledo and my person (Jose Antonio Toledo Herrera), at 7:00am via Maturin – San Tome. Previously we had agreed to meet at the gas station San Tome at the coordinates (N8 56.042 W64 08.327), with the rest of the team conformed by Oscar Gonzalez and his Trail Blazer, Juan Mejías and his Fiat Palio y Luis Manuel Gonzalez (copilot de Juan Mejías).

When we arrived at the station Oscar was waiting for us, and in few minutes Luis Manuel Gonzalez and Juan Mejías arrived. We had the opportunity to visit the Vértice Regven San Tome N8 56.064 W64 08.312, that is located next to the gas station. After the usual photos we continue towards CP by the road of San Tome – Oritupano, hoping to find the inner gate that has access to the confluence road.

Unfortunately the inner gate was closed and as per suggestion of Oscar we went to the property (farm) next door called La Agropecuaria Los Frailes, where Lezama family received us, who are orange producers and package the orange juice as a local product. All the way long we could see the orange fields ready for sowing and they were very kind and gave us some oranges. After that Mr. Lezama was very nice and opened the first inner door and we continued our journey finding a balance beam and an oil well that reminds us the diversity of economical activities of the zone interlacing the petroleum industry and agriculture.

This way we could get to the second inner gate with the vehicles at only 220 meters in a straight line from the objective. We did not have the same luck as before, some got through the bars of the door others didn’t and followed a dirt road until a point at the right that we crossed to walk savannah of vegetation medium of weeds and small shrubs. The climate was pleasant with some breeze, and we saw some animals such as small lizards running around the scrubs.

Finally, we reached the confluence due to the clean of the zone and under a open sky the zeros were reached by the group quickly, GPS equipment used Garmin GPSMAP ® 620, Garmin ® Oregon 550, Nuvi ® 3790T and cellular HTC with external GPS Holux ® 1000, we took the photographs and enjoyed the satisfaction of reaching our objective with friends.

We started our way back to point where we had left the vehicles and back to the principal inner door, immediately Mr. Lezama arrived to close the inner door, just on time a little bit more and we would have to have gone on foot to the farm to ask for the key.
