#1: View from the street towards CP at 110 metres distance in the scrub

(visited by Florian Schindler)

03-Sep-2011 -- I came from 49°N 021°E and drove on motorways and highways towards the east. It was not certain that I would reach the point before sunset, but I made good progress and reached the little town Vyšný Hrušov at 6 pm, more than one hour before sunset. A small street towards north west forks in Vyšný Hrušov and I simply followed my GPS cursor until it pointed perpendicular to the point. Pulled off on the grass bank of the road and made sure I left enough place for other cars to pass.

The distance to the point was 110 metres. I walked on the meadow and had the report of Mr. Czombik in mind where he said it was extremely muddy and he was glad that he worn his wellingtons. From my point of view there was no need for them. How wrong I was.

At the end of the meadow there is a tree line at the banks of a creek. Although I was well within the 100 metres tolerance limit I wanted to zero out my GPS receiver. And therefore I needed to cross the creek with its very muddy banks. I wondered if I should return to the car to wear the wellies (yes, after my experience with 54°N 013°E I brought them with me), but was too lazy to return to the car.

A big jump over the muddy bank and the creek and only one boot touched the mud. The exact Confluence Point is located in the scrub of the banks. Only two meters further to the east the scrub ends and there is also a meadow. Because the views at the meadows on both sides of the creek are more meaningful I also attached them to this report.

Back at my car I had a look at my muddy and sweated clothes and feared that the hotel staff would reject me. Thus I started to change them and just in the moment where I dropped my trouser a tractor with a couple of people passed by. Hope the folks were not shocked! By the way this was the only vehicle which drove on the street during my visit - Murphy's Law ...

As this was the eastern most point on my visit of the Confluence Points along the 49th parallel (the next one is in Ukraine) I changed my direction and drove 10 km west to the next big town Humenné, where I spent the night in a hotel.

Continued at 49°N 018°E.
