08-Jul-2012 – This is the 7th story out of 8 sites we reached on an automobile trip to Russian Central Asia. The narrative of the trip starts from 55°N 90°E.

After having a good rest during breakfast in the café on tourist camp Biy-Khem, we were recalling yesterday’s visiting to the confluence 51°N 95°E and nice dinner with hearing the throat singing performed by Tuvinian artists, and we also made plans for the forthcoming day. The first targeted place to visit was a historical place – the ruins of Buddhist Verkhne-Chadanskiy Abbey (Ustuu Huree Temple), the second and the third destinations were the confluences 51°N 91°E and 51°N 90°E respectively.

When Kyzyl left behind, we headed towards the West to Ak Dovurak town. Before Chadan (motherland of Sergey Shoygu, former Russian Minister of Civil Defense and Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters) we turned right and after 13 km we reached the sacramental place for the most of Tuvinians. People from different kozhuuns (districts in Republic of Tyva) come here to officiate triple rounding of the Temple ruins. As we were explained, thanks to the financial support of Mr. Shoygu, the Temple is being gradually repaired. It was very exciting to come into contact with history.

Our further way ran to Ak-Dovurak town. Before Chyrgaky river we turned away from even asphalted road to the stony one which led us to Chyrgaky village. After passing through the village we moved onto a field dirt road and grassland, and without any accidents got to the destination. While I was trying to handle a camera and GPS unit, two local herdsmen riding horses approached us. To their question what are we doing here, we answered that we just travel. And when they asked to light up, Volodya let them have cigarettes. They cheered us that it’s possible to drive to Ayangaty village via the mountain pass Kylbyshtyg onto the field dirt road by our cars, so later on we got under the way. Thus with a help of such manipulation we saved time and shorten the way to Ak Dovurak, besides enjoyed the high-mountain grasslands sights, and finally took care of our cars as didn’t drive on the low-speed “washboard” road.

Furthermore we desired to visit 51°N 90°E that day!
