07-Oct-2012 -- This report documents the visit to 48N 16E by the Vindobona Hash House Harriers, a drinking club with a running problem. The Vindobona Hash House Harriers, based in Vienna, Austria (Vindobona is the roman name for the city of Vienna), is part of a world wide group of drinking clubs that meet regularly to run and, as you have probably guessed, drink. If you want to know more or would like to join, put "Vindobona Hash House Harriers" into your favourite search engine and you will find our homepage with information on where we are running (every week somewhere different) and what the Hash is about.

Our last run to this location took place 6 years ago - see 48N 16E #7 - so I expect we'll be back in 2018.

Conditions for this run were alot different to last time - this time it was already raining when we laid the trail to the CP - and after the run started the sky's opened and the rain became torrential. If you look at the photos you will see what I mean.

Progress towards the CP was slow because of the terrain through the woods and with the persistent rain we decided to skip the trail we had set - quite steep in places - and with the amount of rain we had had, now almost certainly dodgy if not downright dangerous. We can live with losing 20% of the runners but not 50% ;-)

... and it was getting cold, too!

So instead of the trail we had laid we decided to follow our trail backwards, along a track straight to the CP. And this is what we did. There was the usual CP dance attempting to get all zeroes - but with the less than state of the art Geko GPS, the tree cover, rain and impatience of those standing around in the rain I settled for what you can see in the picture. With an accuracy of 6 m the distance was about 10-15 metres I guess.

For the record the visitors were: Mind the Gap, Tickpleaser, Afterglow, Cardinal Munk, Free Willie, King Ralph, KUTY PI, Matter Over Mind, Root Canal, Squeeze Box Mama, Standing There, The Blessed Saint Norman, Just Aideen.

The impatience of the pack was so great they disappeared before I could even take a group photo. So we headed off back to the cars more of less following the trail we had come up. Even so, someone managed to get lost and head off in the wrong direction. Drinking was postponed while a search party was dispatched, eventually finding the miscreant.

So another CP visit by the Vindobona Hash House Harriers - as far as I can find still the only HHH group to visit a CP. I think everyone enjoyed it - just look at those smiling faces!!!
